She was at a metro station called Valdezarza. Where could she hide an ambulance? She didn’t know this suburb at all. She climbed out of the ambulance to narrow down her options. There was a little park on the hill above the metro entrance and beyond that, lots of old apartment buildings. She wandered up the hill. The windows were like eyes. Soon they would be full of people stuck inside, watching the street. She wanted to turn invisible, but unfortunately her invisible girl button was broken. She hung her head down, trying to avoid the eyes.
All the carparks were full. The one available spot on the shopping street, in front of a shop selling English books, was for deliveries, but it was the only place she could find. She moved the ambulance, climbed into the back, locked the door and went to sleep.
When she woke up, she spent the afternoon investigating the ambulance’s nooks and crannies. So cool! There were all sorts of tools; there was medicine to inject and medicine to swallow and medicine to drip through a tube. There were oxygen containers and heart starting machines and meters and unused sutures. She couldn’t see any nano-technology, but maybe it was so small it was invisible? The only useful thing was the torch. She wondered whether any of it had any value. Everything was a mess and it didn’t seem modern.
