| 6 o’clock was way too early to wake up. Masks on,’ Sylvie reminded them. Yeah, yeah. Nobody knew whether wearing a mask really kept the virus out. Backpacks on, masks on, they walked quickly to the far end of the train station. | ||
| Well, not quite the train station. They were hiding behind the ruined shed near the tracks. ‘Remember to avoid the security cameras, too,’ Oscar had warned them. Martina’s dad had been studying the platform. There seemed to be a black spot – a place that the security cameras didn’t record. | ||
| Since developing the plan, Inés had been practising night and day to master the trick that would get them on the train, but now it was the real thing, and she was very nervous. When she had saved Martina, nobody had expected it (including her!). This time, everyone was depending on her. | ||
| They were going to hide in the unused driver’s carriage at the back of the train. If they couldn’t enter the driver’s carriage, or if there wasn’t one, they would wait for the next train. | ||
| Suddenly they could hear the train approaching. Keeping to the shadows, the others made their way to the end of the platform, making sure that they were not seen by either passengers or guards. | ||
