| ‘She’s as fragile as a butterfly!’ Maria José whispered. They had put the mattresses under the balcony and were ready to try to catch her. As if that will work! | ||
| Martina closed her eyes and took a few steps down the ladder, with her back towards the street. She was very visible. Anybody could see her. Fifteen whole seconds she hesitated there, half-way down the side of the building between the second and third floors. A caterpillar would be faster. The rope ladder wobbled. Martina was shaking hard. Her feet missed the next step. Maybe there’s an earthquake inside her. Or a very big burp? | ||
