Madrid, episode 19: Superhero, 153 (simple)

Interactive (definitions, icons, linguagraphics and quizzes)

The family is planning to get Martina out of the apartment, but to Inés, the plan seems very dangerous. As usual, Inés is playing hard to get. Obviously, the girl has a lot of trust issues.
Arturo will like Martina better than me, Inés thought as she walked towards the metro in Sun Square. She wanted to find some more stuff for her new shelter. Martina won’t be difficult. Martina can buzz, and I can’t buzz at all. Arturo will like someone who can do the same thing as him.
No, she decided as she arrived home, I will not go to their big fat save the prisoner adventure tomorrow. I’ll make my own adventure. .
She could go to South America, for example. She’d find a boat and hide in the bottom all the way. Unfortunately there are not many boats in Madrid.
The biggest problem with the new shelter was water. It was a twenty-five minute walk to a little square with a fountain. It took an hour to fill the bucket and carry it home.
As she walked, she jumped over the holes in the road. They were the sort of holes that had metal covers over them, so that people could go down under the road. If only I could fly. I would dive down into the holes, fly along the underground corridors, and then explode up into the air with a whoosh! near whatever place I want to go. It would be so fast, so secret, so beautiful! I really have to learn to fly!
The new shelter was also a long way from hospitals. No more free food out here. She had started to squeeze food underneath the counters at supermarkets again. Back to boxes of breakfast cereal three times a day. Inés spent the evening getting food and water. Luckily, she also found a lot of cardboard.
A cardboard mattress is much better than a concrete one. Everyone loves concrete, but there are things that concrete doesn’t do well – mattresses, for example. Teddy bears. Everyone loves cake, too, but what if your shoes were made of cake? Do you want chocolate shoes? Or strawberry?
How I wish I had some shoes.
After that Inés walked between the abandoned buildings and poked a stick into a lizard hole. ‘I am an independent woman’, she told any lizard that happened to be listening.
